simple ...

at the Stirring, we're in this series called simple ... in a world spilling into the margins, Jesus calls us back into a simple focused life ...

we've talked about money and time and relationships ... we live in a culture that devours margin ... margin is having space in your life ... space for God and space for relationships ... margin is running but not running as fast as you can ... margin is showing up somewhere early ... margin is not having to be somewhere in five minutes ... margin is getting to the end of the month and having money leftover because you spent less than you earned ... imagine that ... margin is rest ... margin is life ...

and when we live without margin, we get stressed out, we get self consumed and more than anything, relationships suffer ... because relationships happen in the margin ...

when it comes to our paychecks and our schedules and our time and our relationships, Jesus calls us to become a people of margin ... spend less than you earn ... learn how to rest ... enjoy God ... spend a Sabbath day with your family ... unclench your fists and let God be God ... stop trying to control every aspect of your life ... stop trying to cram 7 days work into 5 work days ... slow down ... take your shoes off ... chase what matters ... do you have margin in your life? ... this is what it means to follow Jesus ...

our prayer is simple ... teach us to live simple so we can live loud ...

Sometimes in excel, I make my margins 0. Is that bad. I like my page big. Jesus wants my page big. Big pages. No margin.

Jeff,

Thats why we have Jesus. He Justifies our margins.

I use Him all the time on Microsoft Word

Nate,

You left out what you said about Jesus blowing people off and not apologizing for it..

It's ok to say no, and blow people off... Jesus chose 3 out of the 12 and blew the other 9 off... right?

I loved what you said last night.... but when you said that... I heard more Nate... than Jesus...

Nate,

I thought what you wrote here was awesome. Not sure why these other yahoos felt the need to ruin it.

I hear more God than Nate.

Good Word

I was just trying to be funny. I think Nate will get it. I too think what Nate said was good. But, since we're getting all serious here, I think it is telling of our culture. We have become the fatherless. Whether our fathers were physically present or not the church is relegated to teaching what our fathers should have taught us. To rest, to be different from the world, to live within our means, to create space for that which is most important. We need to rebuild from ruins. Good job Nate.

Sorry that last post was from Jeff Yoder not Leslie.

Let's also not forget to follow Christ's example when creating documents in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Jesus saves.

Sorry we're hijacking this thread, Nate, but this was a good word.

so much tension on my blog ... I love it ... we should debate Calvinism or Obama or homosexuality or the Manifest ... something good and juicy ... bring it on ...

jeff and leslie are here so calvinism might get a lot of attention.

we could talk about obama...and his pro-abortion voting record...but that might rub someone the wrong way.

lets talk about christian music festivals and how they usually have the lamest names:

manna fest
icthus fest
jesus fest
holyspirit west coast
predestination fest
Godrock (put on by the knights of the 4th dispensation)
total depravity fest
limited atonement fest
manifestation fest (anything goes baby, anything goes) :)

but yeah, don't debate why so many christians voted for a man who believes the unborn to be worthless. a man who says "life" is above his paygrade. a mann who has dedicated his life to voting and campaigning on the slaughter of the innocent. but hey, he is all about change...

josh- you are so controversial....naughty naughty.

the xian vote for obama is just an extreme over-reaction and display of disdain for the moral majority of the 80's. maybe in the next decade or two we can get it right...vote for people who actually have morality or better yet, have moral people from the church running for the highest offices in the land.

Josh,
How 'bout Fest of the Elect.
Only 100 tickets to this exclusive event, but bands only play psalms or hymns. When you walk through the gates you have to give up all emotion. You can go to the 'spoken word tent' where you can hear all the creeds and confessions spoken and the entire westminster catechism... The best thing is that you can feast on bread and wine all day long...well, if you're baptized you can.

Josh H. said...

haha :)
supralapsarian fest...you are damned even before you pass through the entrance!

Josh H. said...

obama and abortion? any takers?

come on...all the christians who were having celebration parties for barack...you know you're out there. bring it. come on now...don't be shy.
